Large White Stoneware Dinner Plates for Beautiful Everyday Living

Equal parts art and function, these large handmade pottery plates are tableware that celebrates the soul of the conscious modern kitchen.

The neutral earthy tones of the clay are hand-painted with a soft-white natural clay slip; a large brush creates the broad, wavelike strokes in this contemporary seaside-inspired design and is finished with a special transparent glaze that gives the collection its modern matt look.

The central blue dot in each plate adds interest, pulling the design together deliberately and adding a modern flair to the raw, natural form of the slip.

A White Impatience tableware collection is not complete without these statement dinner plates, created in my pottery studio from stoneware clay produced by a family business in neighbouring Cornwall.

I find joy in creating each plate; watching the variations occur during each step of the process, the marks left by my hand both on and off the wheel, the unpredictability of painting with slip and the slight uncentredness of each blue dot. In turn, however many plates you need for your dinner service, they will always look at ease in their simple unexpectedness rather than exactness.
