Pottery Lessons in Tiverton – for Adults
This service includes one 90-minute pottery lesson for one person. It takes place in my Devon studio (Tiverton, near Exeter).
All the materials you need (clay and tools) will be provided. If you want your creations fired and glazed, there will be a small, weight-based surcharge for each piece.
The pottery lessons are suitable for all levels of experience (adults and teenagers aged 16 and above).
Please note that I don't have the space for more than one person at a time, and there are no common areas for people to wait while you're working with me.
You will receive a confirmation email with the address and directions to the studio, as well as some information about your lesson.
PLEASE CHECK YOUR JUNK FOLDER IF YOU DON'T GET THE EMAIL!
You can choose your time slot using the booking form above.

Spending 90 minutes with Sabine in her bijou professional pottery studio is both restorative and inspiring.
Her intuitive, nurturing skilled approach to teaching the craft inspires me to simply create!
I am learning so much from first lesson and within weeks I had a selection of highly tactile, useable perfectly imperfect charming pots to enrich my home.
Next she provided the scaffolding so I could achieve my project goal of making pots for my collection of succulents. I glaze them tomorrow!
Also inspiring is that I get to see her own work from her catalog of stoneware goods such as bowls, teapots, mugs as they are in the process in the very same studio.
We learn using the same high quality artist grade stoneware clay and glazes so we take quality home.
I wonder what you will create with a few lessons from Sabine Schmidt?
Really good to have a one to one, Sabine clearly knows her stuff and is very good at explaining how the clay reacts and is very patient when demonstrating. Would definitely recommend.
I had never thrown a pot before, I have a terminal illness, so completing my bucket list. Sabine could not have been more welcoming, understanding and is an excellent teacher. I enjoyed every moment of my experience and created 3 pots.... I WiLL go back for more classes. Excellent!!
The world would be a better place with more like Sabine in it.
I’ve been really enjoying my pottery sessions with Sabine! It’s clear that she’s passionate about her craft and is excellent at projecting that passion into her teaching. Sabines pottery studio is very cosy and full of character much like herself. She’s very mindful of her students comforts and always offers a lovely cup of tea on arrival and keeps the studio warm in the winter. I’m only a few lessons in but already looking forward to a long future of classes with Sabine!
I had my very first pottery lesson today and it was absolutely brilliant. Sabine was incredibly welcoming and immediately put me at ease, even though I was a little nervous. Her calm, knowledgeable approach made the whole experience feel accessible and exciting. She explained each step with clarity and purpose, helping me understand not just the how, but the why; which really boosted my confidence, especially as I’d never used a pottery wheel before.
What stood out most was Sabine’s artistic vision. She shared insights into her creative process that added a whole new layer of meaning to the session. It wasn’t just about technique; it was about expression, intention, and beauty. I left feeling inspired and eager to return for more lessons, to keep learning and creating under her thoughtful guidance.
Highly recommend to anyone curious about pottery or looking for a nurturing, creative space to explore it!
