Rustic Mini Vases, Wabi Sabi Art

Every sculptural rustic vase is 100% unique in colour and detail, so appearances will vary. Wheel-thrown, I create each of the miniature vases in affinity with the ball of clay in front of me, leaning into my artistic intuition.

Each tiny vase is a functional sculpture; the lines, bends and overall shape are grounded in nature, reflecting the wabi-sabi principles that influence this collection. Using a palette of dark natural colours, I apply the shades to contrast and harmonise across each piece. The natural slipware is the ideal complement to the organic forms of the vases, creating an overall look that is both rustic and creative. The natural clay slip is expressively applied by listening to the clay itself. Some vases may be heavily dripping in the darker shades of slip, while others may embrace the orange-red lines created by the reactive nature of the stoneware and matte glaze.

Every pottery vase crafted for Grey Coincidence is a one-of-a-kind item that can never, by the very nature of handcrafting, be repeated. But please rest assured that your set of three ceramic bud vases will be carefully chosen to ensure they work together in effortless unison.
