Medium-Sized Handmade Stoneware Bowls 

These medium stoneware bowls are one-of-a-kind and perfect for everyday and decorative use. The raw, organic appearance appeals to anyone with a love for contemporary rusticism, adding striking artistry to the modern home.

Every bowl has a slightly rough, textured surface, which is a result of the clay's inherent feel and the lines left behind during the throwing process. Each medium bowl is a unique work of art made of stoneware. The colours, details, and overall look produce a rough yet pure finish that emphasises the materials' excellence.

Each medium ceramic bowl (handmade) will have subtle differences in appearance. Please note that your medium decorative bowl may differ from those pictured.

Rustic Stoneware Bowl Inspired by Wabi-Sabi Philosophy

Wabi-sabi is a Japanese philosophy that stresses nature's transience, impermanence, and imperfection, as well as the contrast between what is and what will be. Much of my work reflects this, and each ball of clay in the Grey Coincidence series becomes a stoneware bowl that is both accidental and deliberate.

I manually paint slipware over each bowl with a pallet of dark natural colours. These colours blend together on the exterior, casting light and shadow over the grooves and verges that were created during the throwing process.

Clay is a unique material created by nature itself. The outcome of working with it is an impulsive combination of shifting forms, firm structures and an almost minimalist design, ranging from soft and flexible to rigid and substantial.

I engage with the throwing process to experiment with the diversity that ceramic work allows, working from my Devonshire pottery studio with the best quality stoneware from neighbouring Cornwall.
