Natural Earthen Stoneware with an Elegant Rustic Twist

Traditional techniques of wheel-throwing, hand-carving and the application of slipware are a nod to the wabi-sabi philosophies that inspire my Grey Coincidence collection.

A chalky white slip made in-studio from a stunning naturally white clay is washed over the body of the candle holders, nestling into the carved lines surrounding the deep, enticing rim. The white highlights the natural, of-the-earth look that is inspired by Japanese aesthetics. By working in tune with the textured surface, marks of making, and the nature of the clay, the tealight holders have an organic meant-to-be appearance.

Hand-carved Rustic Pottery, Candle Holder Set

Hand-throwing from my Devon-based pottery studio with a sustainably sourced stoneware clay produced in local Cornwall, the process of making is inherent in the final look of each candle holder. With a delicate but determined hand, I work to a design that is by its very nature deliberately innocent and creates subtle variations that preserve every step of the pottery-making process.
