Japanese-Inspired Small Bud Vases

Building layers of natural slip creates depth around the body of each bud vase. Inspired by Japanese aesthetics, especially wabi-sabi, the dark colours are applied so as to communicate with the movement of the flower frog. This instinctive, natural approach accentuates the texture of the clay, the muted tones producing pure, raw harmony in every unique ceramic piece.

Clay is curious, and as its maker, I embrace the intriguing transience of creation too. Constantly refining my skills while remaining loyal to the experiment that is every new piece, I work in such a way as to instil expression and joy into each beautifully finished vase.

Working from my Devonshire studio, I create all my lines in small, limited-run batches that allow the work to establish its own identity as unique pieces of art that are functional, sculptural and usable in modern living.
